AoC Sport launches new active student survey

AoC Sport, in partnership with ukactive and supported by Sport England and Matrix Fitness, has launched the British Active Students Survey (BASS).

This is the first survey which is specifically designed to understand the activity levels of students and the associated benefits of leading an active lifestyle at college.

We all know the dangers of physical inactivity. It is as dangerous to an individual’s health as smoking, and nearly twice as many premature deaths can be attributed to physical inactivity as obesity.

The findings of this report will provide a great opportunity for colleges to demonstrate the impact of sport and physical activities for ALL students.

We will capture the impact on students’ perceived employability and attainment, mental and physical wellbeing and social inclusion.

In addition we will develop a greater understanding of the barriers to participation which will help colleges to design appropriate activity programmes.

The outcomes of this survey, which will be published in early 2019, will also play an important part in working with partners to secure future funding for colleges sport.

The online survey is open now and runs until 14 December. We encourage all colleges to get as many students as possible from all curriculum areas to complete the survey.

There will also be a prize for the college with the highest response rate as a percentage of their full time student population.
