Education – University of Bath Give Their Take on Matrix

The partnership between the University of Bath and Matrix has seen Team Bath access state-of-the-art fitness equipment to enhance their training and enable tomorrow’s Olympians to augment their performance, workout after workout.

Students at the University of Bath have been benefitting from the latest state-of-the-art cardiovascular, strength, resistance, studio and group training equipment to enhance their workouts alongside their intellectual development since the partnership with Matrix began in 2015.

The partnership has gone from strength to strength, seeing Matrix completely redesign and refurbish the sports village to its present state in September 2016. Thanks to the expertise of Matrix’s in-house team of CAD specialists, who painstakingly planned the new layout of the refurbished site, the facility now benefits from the sleek, sophisticated, innovative products specifically designed with a smaller footprint to maximise product offering and ensure ROI.

And it’s due to Matrix’s unwavering commitment to the partnership that Matrix has now secured the next phase of the University’s expansion, equipping the new-build gym extension, currently underway, with functional training rig Connexus and other group training facilities in the pipeline.

On opening the redesigned, reworked gym facility in September 2016, Colin Jackson CBE, Olympic medallist, World, European and Commonwealth Sprint and hurdling champion, and University alumni, said: “I am so jealous of you [students] having this amazing equipment – back in the day I just used to lift dead weights!

“I’m excited because I have seen what Matrix has done in the past – the equipment is really at the top end. They talk to elite-level athletes about the practical side of training, then develop equipment which meets those needs. That also means the general public get a massive benefit too.”

What the partnership delivers…

With Team Bath boasting several Olympic hopefuls amongst their student population, Matrix equipment has certainly coped with the demands of elite athletes, whilst providing innovative technology to make sessions more engaging and entertaining for students of all levels and abilities.

Through their enlightening host of connected solutions, Matrix has equipped the University with a bespoke TeamBath Active App, which has been a great tool for students and members to track how busy the gym is, book group exercise classes effortlessly, and tracks their physical activity whilst taking part in fitness challenges.

“It’s also become a powerful tool for us to communicate with our members via push notifications.”

As well as industry-leading training equipment, the University has also benefited from the knowledge and expertise of the specialist Product team at Matrix.
